The property was formerly a barn, built in the early 1900s and part of a farm that has been owned by the family for over 100 years.
The barn stood empty for many years, until in 2011 we decided to take the plunge and convert it into holiday cottages. The project was a huge undertaking - work commenced in 2012 and was completed later that year when we finally opened our doors to our first guests.
The tranquillity and beauty of the area is a surprise to many, with the array of wildlife in its natural habitat, together with cattle and sheep gently grazing in the fields surrounding the property – yet only a 15 minute drive takes you to the centre of Carlisle and we are only 10 minutes from the M6.
The area is steeped in Roman history – the property is situated just metres from the line of Hadrian’s Wall, which once marked the northern frontier of the Roman empire and is built right on the line of the Vallum (a communications trench that lay just to the south of the wall along its entire length).
Over the years, we have welcomed back many returning guests, many of whom have fallen in love with the property and the area. Our guests appreciate the little touches – a chilled bottle of wine awaiting them after a long drive, a few basic provisions provided on arrival (including the ever-popular eggs from our own hens) and the friendly welcome and advice.
Whether your stay is for business or leisure – we look forward to welcoming you.
